IEEE 802.1 Maintenance
Meeting
Sept 11th, 2018
8:00am-9:00am – Minutes v1 (Paul Congdon)
Attendees: Mick Seaman, Norm Finn, Ralf Assman, Steve Haddock, Xiang Yu, John Messenger, Geoff Garner, Craig Gunther, Stephan Kehrer, Fumihide Kojima, Karl Weber, Christian Boiger, Max Riegel, Razvan Mihalache, Karim Traure, Scott Mansfield, Glenn Parsons, Jessy Rouyer, Aairit Ademaj, Radhakrishna Canchi, Marina Gutierrez, Chunhui Zhu, Reiner Wamsser, Atsushi Sato, Jordan Woods, Nadir Zein, Takuma Nomizu, Yoshiaki Adachi, Yoshifumi Hotta, Isao Tarui, Takenor Baba, Josef Dorr, Gunter Steindl
Minutes:
- The interim chair, Paul Congdon, introduced the agenda, showed the patent policy slides and made the call for patents. There were no responses.
- Paul presented the list of current vehicles (drafts) used for implementing maintenance items, and the current numerical status of maintenance items in the database. Details in the Maintenance Session Slides.
- New maintenance item 0210 – Maintenance request for P802.1CS was submitted by Norm Finn just prior to the meeting and was discussed. The title of the maintenance item was updated to be more specific. It is now called, “ECP protocol code point for P802.1CS needed in 802.1Q-2018”. The proposal is to document the protocol code point in 802.1CS as needed, then wait for a revision or amendment to 802.1Q in order to update table 43-1 with the new value. The item was received, and it was agreed to continue discussion in November and offline.
- A discussion regarding the need for an internal 802.1 registry of values stemmed from the discussion of new item 0210. It is desirable to maintain a list of assigned values that 802.1 uses for various purposes; most notably 802.1 LLDP TLV types. Currently the chair maintains various XLS files, some of which are available on the 802.1 file server. There were no conclusions on how to proceed, but it was agreed to discuss a process further offline.
- Existing maintenance items were reviewed and updated.
- No action taken on 0170, 0174 and 0205 because they are awaiting a document vehicle to be resolved and are otherwise ready to go.
- Item 0177 was closed because the submitter has withdrawn the item.
- The group is still waiting to hear from RevCom regarding the status of 802.1AC-Cor1 and 802.1Xck. Once approved and published, the associated items can be closed.
- There was no comment resolution required on existing ballots
- Liaisons: none.
- We briefly reviewed the ISO SC6 ballot comment on 802.1AEcg. A response will be formulated and a motion to respond is expected in November.
- We reviewed the status of standards in the PSDO process, prepared by Karen Randall.

Potential new project for OmniRAN TG
Kenichi present the slides,
The issue is the demand for a unified traffic/stream specification for all kind of traffic occurring in FFIoT.
Chair indicates the generic descriptions of the traffic types in P802.1CF clause 6.5.1.2.
It was recommended to work out the capabilities of the stream specification protocol in 802.1Q;
The outcome of this investigation should be brought up to the whole IEEE 802.1 WG either in a joint TSN/OmniRAN session, or as agenda item of a TSN session.
A potential PAR could be addressed by TSN, but could also be in OmniRAN, if the target is not being bound to 802.1Q and more generic.

Abstract
Draft Minutes of the IEEE 802 Network Evolution for the Next Decade Industry Connections (Nendica) meeting in Waikoloa, HI, USA, 2018-09-11.
Chair: Roger Marks
Recording Secretary: Tim Godfrey
Call to order
The Chair calls the meeting to order at 2018-09-11 19:30 Hawaii Time.
Minutes
Tim Godfrey volunteers to act as recording secretary.
Introduction
The Chair points attendees to the Nendica webpage https://1.ieee802.org/802-nendica. The Chair shows how to reach this webpage from the IEEE 802.1 website.
The Chair presents guidelines for IEEE-SA meetings and the IEEE Participation slide. The Chair reviews the IEEE ICCOM Guidelines, and the Nendica Procedures for IC activities.
The chair reviews the proposed agenda in https://1.ieee802.org/802-nendica/agenda-ieee-802-nendica-meeting/ (see approved agenda in Annex 1).
The agenda is approved at 7:42pm with unanimous consent.
The Chair reminds attendees to register their attendance using IEEE’s IMAT webpage. It was reported that 9 people were present in the meeting in Waikoloa, and another 11 were connected by electronic link to a meeting room at the IEEE 802.1 interim session in Oslo, Norway. (See attendance list in Annex 2.)
Approval of Minutes
The chair reviews the draft minutes of the 8-August Teleconference, in Nendica document 0046.
There is no discussion on document 0046. That minutes document was approved with unanimous consent.
Work Items
The Chair reported that the approved IEEE 802 Nendica Report on “The Lossless Network for Data Centers” is now published as Nendica Mentor document 0042.
The IEEE has not yet published the report in other venues, though IEEE Staff have offered to do so. The chair is expecting a corrected link at IEEE Xplore, as well as additional reference on the IEEE-SA web site and bulletins. He will continue to work with IEEE Staff.
Flexible Factory IoT (FFIOT)
Nader Zein is the FFIoT editor. Nader will lead the discussion on comment resolution.
Nader presents Nendica document 0055 “FFIoT Status Report.”
Review of comments on Call for Comments – 257 comments from 8 reviewers.
There were some late comments that are not included in the summary directly, only by reference to a URL.
There were 168 editorial and 88 technical comments.
Nader explains his judgement and proposed resolutions for editorial comments, as described in the spreadsheet document 0054. There are 17 comments that propose further discussion.
The plan is to agree to address editorial comments, discuss the 17 needing discussion, and schedule two teleconferences.
Objective is to have a new draft before the November 2018 meeting for circulation and comment collection. Nader asks if another 30 days is required for a recirculation comment collection. The Chair says there is no specific rule for the recirculation. There should be a judgement based on the extent of changes, but the Chair thinks that close to 30 days would be ideal, to allow careful review given the extent of the comments. Nader says he will try to initiate a recirculation collection 30 days before the November 13 next meeting date.
Nader says he intends to assign technical comments to some of the contributors. The Chair says that we should ask for volunteers to resolve comments, not restricting the resolution to the developers of the earlier draft.
The Chair notes that it would be useful to mention document 0054 in any revision of the document 0055, to indicate the source of the comments and proposed resolutions.
Nader presents the comment spreadsheet in document 0054.
There is extensive discussion on the comments and resolutions. Nader agreed to upload the 0054r1 to record the discussions and decisions made during the meeting.
Marks reviewed the external document NIST AMS.300-4 (“Guide to Industrial Wireless Systems Deployments”) for relevance to the FFIoT Work Item. It was observed that the document would be a useful reference and that some of the figures could be useful to add into the FFIoT draft. Also, some of the material was suggestive of subject matter that might be added to the FFIoT draft.
Future Meetings
It was agreed to schedule two teleconferences, 2018-09-27 and 2018-10-11, each 09:00-11:00 ET. If necessary, a further teleconference could be added.
The Chair adjourns the meeting at 22:35.
