IEEE 802.1 TSN Webinar:  Audio/Video Bridging

Thursday, 9 June 2022 – 11:00am ET

The Audio Video Bridging (AVB) IEEE 802.1 Standards work culminated with the AVB Profile Standard (IEEE 802.1BA).  This initial Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) project provides a plug-and-play solution for audio and video streams by reserving bandwidth for these streams ahead of non-reserved flows.  It also supports synchronous playback by end nodes anywhere in an arbitrary shaped network that are within bridge hop counts that support a latency under the flows requested limits.

After AVB’s completion, other industries requested enhancements to the AVB base standards to support more use cases.  Thus the AVB Group changed its name to the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) Group to show its support for all applicable use cases.  But this was a name change only as most of AVB’s base standards are still used, with some enhancements and some new base standards, for the new use cases.

This webinar will describe the goals of the AVB project and the IEEE 802.1 Standards that were developed for each problem area and their solutions.  This will give participants a better understanding of what the AVB project did and why, as a method to better understand the structure of the TSN Standards and the subsequent TSN use case Profiles.
