This standard specifies protocols, procedures, and managed objects for resource allocation in bridged local area networks for dynamic creation and maintenance of data streams. This standard supports control signaling through data paths and/or through separate control paths in support of centralized control. This standard makes provisions for backward compatibility with the Stream Reservation Protocol specified in IEEE Std 802.1Q.
